Suspension, Wheels & Tires

Cargo and build component weight can really change the way your van handles. Upgrading the suspension with an Agile RIP Kit or Van Compass Suspension kit is a great way to “stop the sway” and improve handling both on and off road. The addition of upgraded wheels and A/T tires will ensure you can get further off the beaten path.

Agile OffROAD SUSPENSION UPGRADES

Agile Offroad offers Ride Improvement Packages (RIP) for 4WD, 2WD and AWD Sprinters and Transits. Their kits included tuned shocks, leaf spring upgrades.

Van COmpass SUSPENSION UPGRADES

Van Compass offers tailored kits for Sprinters and Transits. Their base kits can be upgraded with tunable shocks with reservoirs, upgraded struts and lift kits.

Wheels and Tires

The stock steel wheels and tires that came on your van are fine for around town deliveries but if you’re planning to get off road or simply want to improve the look of your van, aftermarket alloy wheels and quality all terrain tires are the way to go. We offer wheel brands such as Method, Black Rhino, and Owl Vans. We recommend and offer Cooper, Yokohama and BFGoodRich tires.

  • The stock rims and tires that come on Sprinters, Transits, and Promasters often just don’t cut it for what you are going to need on your adventures. Upgrading your tires is a great way to provide your van with better off-road handling and an overall better look. Alloy rims are stronger and lighter and with many styles to choose from are a great way to personalize your van.

You can find your OEM recommended tire size on the sticker in your driver door jam. Just using the recommended specs and upgrading to a good all terrain tire is a good place to start. Here are some great all-terrain tire options to choose from:

    Cooper Tire Discoverer-AT3

    Toyo Tires Open Country-AT3

    BFGoodrich KO2

Upgrading to a larger tire size can offer your van more traction and sometimes more ground clearance too. Sometimes to be able to upgrade to a larger tire it is best to size up on your rim as well to not have such a tall side wall and make the van more stable on the road.

  • Black Rhino and Method Race Wheels offer some great rim options for Sprinters. We highly recommend upgrading to 17” rims. The most popular combination for a 4x4 2019+ Sprinter is the following:

    BlackRhino ARSENAL 17X8 6X130 +38 84 - Textured Matt Black

    BF Goodrich AT KO2 275/70/17

Sizing up this much will require the installation of Agile’s Mini Fender Kit.

  • Although Ford has not left much room for a tire upgrade, we do recommend it as the factory tires just don't cut it for much more than just highway travel. Your transit has 235/65-R16 size tires currently and we recommend upgrading to 245/75-R16 All Terrain tires. This gives you about 2.5" larger diameter, which not only looks nicer, but also increases traction in off-road conditions and gives you about 1" of extra clearance.

Increasing the tire size does require some modification of the front wheel wells. This article is a great resource to understand what goes into this swap. Be sure to read the section at the end about the spare tire.

If you are getting a suspension upgrade that changes out your front shocks/struts as well, you will need to upgrade to aftermarket rims with a larger offset or add 3/16" spacers to prevent rubbing on your new shocks/struts.

For aftermarket rim upgrades, we recommend Black Rhino wheels. However, if you have an AWD transit, Black Rhino does not make the appropriate wheels for your vehicle. We recommend Ultra Wheels AWD Transit wheels.

  • For ProMasters there are less options out there, but upgrading your rims and tires can make a huge difference in the look of your van. Take it from a toy car on skateboard wheels to a ready-to-go adventure vehicle. We recommend the following:

Ultra Wheels – Toil 450 with BFG KO2 LT 225/75R16
